There is a paradox that sits at the absolute core of a body of work I call Institutional Judgement Capability. And it’s this:
“Why do intelligent people, working together in good faith, often end up building organisations that get progressively worse at seeing - and responding to - what’s in front of them?”
AI is about to make extraordinary intelligence available to institutions at an unprecedented scale. But intelligence has never been the same thing as judgement. An abundance of intelligence poured into an institution that cannot metabolise dissent does not produce better decisions. It produces better-argued versions of the decisions the institution was always going to make.
The ability for a business to navigate the waves of change brought on by the digital age will not come down to the capability of a concentrated group of senior leaders. Instead, the whole organisation will need to learn how to move at one with the markets.
For businesses to stay perpetually relevant in an age defined by pace and change, they must become highly responsive and fluid.
